Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is the second performing concert ensemble and includes members working toward the highest goals in music. Emphasis is on advanced instrumental technique and ensemble rehearsal skills, music literacy, music history, and performance practice. The best in wind literature, as well as the standard classics, will serve as the group’s repertoire. Music will include all grade levels but will mostly focus on advanced high school level band literature.
Students will have the opportunity to perform in other school ensembles such as Jazz Ensemble One, Jazz Workshop, and chamber ensembles. Students will also be able to perform in one of the other concert bands if the student is interested in playing more than one instrument.
Since Fontainebleau High School has grown into the largest high school in Louisiana, the ensemble must perform music at a higher level than most other schools’ second groups. This group’s repertoire includes music by well known composers such as Frank Ticheli, Frank Erickson, Charles Carter, Daniel Bukvich, William Himes, David Holsinger, Jack Stamp, Fred Allen, and many more.
The Symphonic Band has consistently received sweepstakes awards at district festivals and other festivals the group has attended.
